Under Europe’s WEEE Directive, producers of electronic goods will be responsible for the recycling of products they put on the market from 1st July 2007.

Ensure that you comply with the law and let us handle the disposal of your fridges and any other WEEE waste.

refrigerator recycling

Why are refrigerators hazardous?

  • Household refrigerators  and freezers made before 1995 typically contain chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant. Many window air-conditioning units and dehumidifiers contain hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerant. Both substances, if released into the environment, can destroy the ozone layer.
  • Modern refrigerators still need to be handled with care because they contain greenhouse gases
  • Refrigerators built before 2005 are insulated with foam that contains ODS that contribute to both ozone depletion and climate change
  • Many refrigerator units contain hazardous components, such as mercury, oil and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
