Outstanding achievements in international trade recognised in Queen’s Award Presentation

Our metal recycling and waste management business has been running successfully for over 80 years, so you can feel confident that we know what we’re doing.

Quality standards

We are an ISO accredited business with the highest standards of quality and performance across all of our specialist areas. We aim to divert 100% of the materials we process from ending up in landfill and we are committed to developing a truly sustainable business.

Sustainable services

We collect, process and recycle almost a million tonnes of ferrous and non ferrous metals each year which reduces environmental pollution, slows landfill growth, conserves natural resources and saves energy. By working for Ward you can be proud to work for a business which actively serves the environment in which we live.

Our skip hire and waste management services span domestic, asbestos, commercial and hazardous waste. We also have our own textiles facility, WARDrobe where we process pre-loved clothing and textiles for reuse both in the UK and overseas, diverting unwanted textile from landfill.

Team WARD

Ward is a fourth generation family business built on strong family values which are key to our continued success. These values include stewardship, teamwork, professional pride and integrity, commitment, respect and continuous innovation. We are able to take a long term perspective, focusing on growth, stability and the legacy for the next generation.

We recognise that our people are our business and we build a culture of trust and respect where we live our values in everything we do. We strive to always get better at what we do and how we do it. We collaborate with our people and believe that we are stronger together.

Rewarding you

We offer a unique package of benefits to all our workforce from day one through our REWARD scheme, which includes specialist health and wellbeing support for you and your family, discounted leisure and holidays, shopping discounts and a Cycle to Work scheme.

Professional development

Our people matter and continued learning and development is important to us. Once you have had your company induction, you will spend time with your manager and team to fully understand your role at Ward.

We encourage people to continue learning throughout their career with Ward and encourage job-shadowing, developing IT skills and internal transfers. We have our own HGV Driver training program which supports our existing employees to become qualified HGV Drivers so they can embark on a career within our transport team.

We offer some in-house training and an endorsed list of sponsored qualifications each year paid for through our training bursary. We encourage continuous opportunities for self-study and even up to three days’ study leave in addition to annual leave, to help with professional development.

Opportunities for all

Our workforce is made up of talented, professional and dedicated employees. Different backgrounds, perspectives and ideas help us create stronger and more creative teams. We celebrate diversity and inclusivity and we believe in opportunities for all – this includes marginalised groups and ex-offenders. We work with Jobcentre Plus and the prison service to offer placement opportunities for those who need our help to re-enter the workplace.

Giving Back

There is a strong sense of charity which runs through our business. You will have the opportunity to participate in up to two volunteering days within your local community each year. Our ‘Ward Ambassador’ group of employee representatives meet to identify great causes which we can support each year. We regularly donate to local charities and community groups and we also match fund the charity funds raised by our people to support a range of initiatives.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We strive to support the environment and the communities in which we operate. In fact, it is an essential part of our business. We have a robust sustainability strategy, The Ward Way and a team of environmental experts who shape and lead this important work at Ward.
