Want to know more details about working at Ward? Take a look through our career questions.

Q:  I would like to work for Ward but there are no suitable vacancies for me advertised at this time – can I submit a speculative application?

A: Absolutely! We welcome speculative applications from people who want to work in our Industry. We are really passionate about metal recycling and waste management and if you are too, we want to hear from you at [email protected]. If we have no current vacancies, we will put you into our ‘talent pool’ and contact you as soon as a suitable opportunity comes up.

Q: What is the interview process like?

A: It largely depends on what role you apply for. We sometimes start with a telephone or video interview for our office based or managerial roles. For site-based roles, you can expect to be invited for an interview and site tour with one of our managers. We are always looking for people with a ‘can-do’ attitude which we feel is more important than qualifications for many of our roles.

Our machine operators can expect to be asked to do a short trial on the machine and show their licenses as part of the interview process.

Our office-based positions often involve a job interview with a short activity.

Senior roles may be asked to present to a panel.

We are a friendly bunch though, so don’t worry!

Q: What is it like to work for Ward?

A: It’s a busy and fast paced environment with lots to do.

It’s not necessarily glamorous – collecting, processing and recycling waste is a tough job – but it’s equally rewarding, knowing that the work we all do at Ward serves an important purpose in today’s world, more so now than ever before.

No matter what part of the business you work in, you can expect to work alongside a great group of people. We trust people to do their job so you will be given a degree of autonomy once you are fully trained. You will have appraisals with your manager and we encourage regular and open dialogue.

We have a Ward Ambassador staff representative group and we hold regular forums with our Directors to discuss current events and ideas. We survey our people to find out from them what they enjoy most about their role, what we are doing well and how we can improve.

Our people are our most valuable asset and we are really proud of Team Ward.

Q: Are there opportunities for career progression?

A: Yes. We would describe ourselves as a meritocracy – people who want to do well here, can do well. Many of our Site Managers have worked their way up through the ranks and are now leading large teams or overseeing complex processes. The majority of our Apprentices have, once qualified, been offered full time roles on completion of their course.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We operate from multiple different locations across the UK with the majority of our sites being in Derbyshire. For more information on all of our locations click here.
