Material Handler (360 Operator)

We are recruiting a Material Handler (360 Operator) to join the Non-Ferrous Team at our new Barnsley site.

Barnsley operates as a ferrous and non-ferrous metals site, and this role will focus specifically on supporting non-ferrous operations. You will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating 360 material handlers to move, sort and manage non-ferrous scrap materials, ensuring quality control and production targets are consistently achieved.

This is a skilled plant operator role requiring precision, attention to detail and strong safety awareness within a busy metal recycling environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate 360 material handlers to move and manage non-ferrous scrap materials
• Feed processing equipment and support material segregation
• Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently
• Stockpile and segregate materials in line with grading specifications
• Support Scrap Inspectors and Supervisors in maintaining grade integrity
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections and complete required documentation
• Report mechanical defects, damage or performance concerns promptly
• Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of your allocated machine
• Work to production targets while maintaining strict quality standards

Machine Responsibility

Operators are expected to take ownership of their machine, including:

• Completing daily inspections and reporting defects
• Monitoring machine performance and wear
• Keeping the cab and external machine areas clean and presentable
• Operating within manufacturer guidelines and company procedures

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
• Wear appropriate PPE at all times
• Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other plant
• Report hazards, near misses and unsafe behaviours
• Support compliance with environmental and operational standards

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Valid 360 material handler / excavator licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
• Experience operating 360 plant within recycling, metals or heavy industry
• Strong awareness of safe plant operation
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable and safety-focused

Desirable:

• Experience within non-ferrous metal recycling
• Understanding of non-ferrous grading
• Basic mechanical knowledge
