Material Handler (360 Operator)

We are recruiting a Material Handler (360 Operator) to join our team at our new Castleford site.

Castleford operates as a ferrous and non-ferrous feeder yard, processing and preparing materials for onward transport to larger facilities. This role is responsible for operating 360 plant safely and efficiently to move, sort and load materials while maintaining stockpile control and supporting site throughput.

This is a skilled plant operator position requiring strong safety awareness, precision and reliability within a smaller but active yard environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate 360 material handlers to move and manage ferrous and non-ferrous materials
• Load articulated vehicles and containers safely and efficiently
• Organise and maintain stockpiles in line with grading requirements
• Support segregation of materials to maintain grade integrity
• Feed processing equipment where required
• Conduct daily pre-start checks and complete inspection documentation
• Identify and report mechanical defects or operational concerns
• Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of your allocated machine
• Support general housekeeping and safe yard organisation

Machine Responsibility

Operators are expected to take ownership of their machine, including:

• Completing daily inspections and reporting defects
• Monitoring wear and identifying potential mechanical issues
• Maintaining cleanliness of the cab and external areas
• Operating in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company procedures

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
• Wear appropriate PPE at all times
• Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other plant
• Report hazards, near misses and unsafe behaviours
• Support compliance with environmental and operational standards

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Valid 360 material handler / excavator licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
• Experience operating plant within recycling, aggregates or heavy industry
• Strong awareness of safe plant operation
• Ability to work effectively within a smaller team environment
• Reliable and safety-focused

Desirable:

• Experience within metal recycling
• Basic mechanical knowledge
