We are recruiting a Material Handler (360 Operator) to join our team at our new metals recycling site in Huddersfield.
This is a skilled plant operator role responsible for operating 360 material handlers to move, sort and load ferrous and non-ferrous materials safely and efficiently. The position plays a key role in maintaining site throughput, stock control and overall operational performance.
You will be expected to operate your machine to a high standard while maintaining strong safety awareness in a busy yard environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 360 material handlers to move and manage ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Load articulated vehicles and containers in line with site procedures
- Organise and maintain stockpiles to preserve grade integrity
- Feed processing equipment where required
- Support material segregation and yard organisation
- Conduct daily pre-start checks and complete required inspection documentation
- Report mechanical defects, damage or performance concerns immediately
- Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of your allocated machine
- Support housekeeping standards across operational areas
Machine Responsibility
Operators are expected to take ownership of their allocated machine, including:
- Completing daily inspections and reporting defects
- Monitoring machine performance and wear
- Maintaining cleanliness of the cab and external areas
- Operating within manufacturer guidance and company procedures
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other plant
- Report hazards, near misses and unsafe behaviours
- Support compliance with environmental permit requirements
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Valid 360 material handler / excavator licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
- Experience operating plant within recycling, metals or heavy industry
- Strong awareness of safe plant operation
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Reliable and safety-focused
Desirable:
- Experience within metal recycling
- Basic mechanical knowledge
