#TeamWARD Smashing Some Goals in 2023

Let's Smash It logo

From getting physically fit and managing our mental health, to raising money for causes close to our hearts and feeling good about ourselves, we’re giving 2023 everything we’ve got!

Our Ward Ambassadors have been busy putting a programme of activities together to help build our team, boost positivity and keep us all focused on raising a huge target of over £66,000 in 12 months to support great charitable causes throughout 2023 and beyond.

Stepping Up

Stepping Up

Who: Team Ward

Challenge: Physical & Mental Fitness

Goal achieved: 623,440 steps

Ward kick-started the New Year by inviting staff to step up and take part in a month-long team Pedometer Challenge this January. Each participating team member was given a pedometer to record the steps, logging the results on a daily or weekly basis. The Donald Ward House Sales and Purchasing team took the top spot, but everyone put in a great performance – well done!

Challenge: Fundraising

Goal achieved: Over £15,000

Donald Ward, Operations Director and Dan Egner, Site Operations Manager at Chesterfield, gave our fundraising target a serious boost this spring when they took on the London Marathon. Running in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research and MS Society, respectively, they smashed their fundraising targets and clocked up and impressive time while completing the 26.2-mile track. Great effort, guys!

Hedgerow Heroes

Hedgerow Heroes

Challenge: Conservation & Sustainability

Goal achieved: Clearing and hedge-laying

Earlier this year, we supported Derbyshire County Council’s (DCC) ‘Hedgerow Heroes’ campaign, which aims to restore hedgerows nationwide using traditional hedge laying methods. We purchased saplings for the hedge-laying activity, while Chris Gibbons, Business Development Executive, spent a day volunteering at Williamthorpe Nature Reserve as part of The Ward Way. Nice one, Chris!

Challenge: Fundraising

Goal achieved: £120.00

Over 50 keen footballers took to the pitch for our inaugural 5-a-side charity tournament in aid of Derbyshire Mind. Seven teams from across the business battled it out for championship glory, with DWH snatching the title. As well as the pitch action, spectators were treated to family-friendly activities and refreshments, with all proceeds topping up the charity pot. Everyone was a winner on the day!

Racing For Life

Racing For Life

Challenge: Fundraising & Fitness

Goal achieved: £6,600.00

A 29-strong team of ‘Ward Athletes’ took to the track for Cancer UK’s Race For Life 5K in Derby. Ward Ambassador Dan Egner was the team’s main organiser, arranging a Couch to 5k challenge and setting up online groups to inspire and motivate. The team raised over £6,600 but the best result is how many Ward Athletes have taken to running. Keep it up!
