Ward’s Goal Smashing in 2023 is a Marathon not a Sprint

Ward employees running for charity

As part of its commitment to ‘Smash Some Goals in 2023’, metal recycling and waste specialist Ward is getting being behind Donald Ward, Operations Director and Dan Egner, Site Operations Manager at Chesterfield, after both secured charity places for this year’s London Marathon.

Donald will be lacing up his running shoes in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, via the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC), while Dan is donning his running vest for MS Society. To support them with their fundraising efforts, Ward will match every pound raised by Donald and Dan.

This year’s Marathon takes place on Sunday 23rd April, and will see around 42,000 take to the 26.2-mile track for various good causes.

Donald said: “Running isn’t something that comes naturally to me, so my journey to the Marathon has been about getting fit enough to take part and reach the finish line. I was inspired by a friend who participated in a previous London Marathon and decided I needed to do my bit for a good cause.

“The NFDC is proud to support several local and national charities through fundraising, and MacMillan Cancer Support is such a worthy one, as affiliate members, they were good enough to give me their charity place. Any money I raise will help fund their vital services and give people affected by cancer the support they need to live a better life.”

Dan said: “My Marathon journey began with a photo, back in 2021 that sparked a desire to get fit and improve my wellbeing, I haven’t looked back since.

“I never dreamt I’d be running in a Marathon but I’ve slowly built up to this point, and am proud to be supporting the MS Society, as they’ve done so much to support my family over the last few years.”

Donald and Dan’s Marathon efforts support Ward’s wider campaign to ‘Smash Some Goals’ year-long campaign which is aiming to raise £60,000 for local charities. The initiative comprises a programme of activities to build the team, boost positivity, improve fitness and wellbeing while supporting some great charitable causes.
