Ward Athletes Top £10K with Latest Race for Life Success

In June, as part of Ward Athletes latest challenge, a 17-strong team of runners took on Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 5K, at Derby’s Markeaton Park, raising over £1,350.
Ward Ambassador, Dan Egner and fellow running organiser Natalie Wain, led the team to take part after arranging regular training runs and encouraging new runners to sign up to a Couch to 5k challenge eight weeks before the race. They kept people motivated with through a Ward Athletes Strava Group and WhatsApp Group to share progress and keep people inspired.
Ben Stubbs was the fastest of the group on the day, coming 4th in the overall race and plenty of Personal Bests (PBs) were also achieved across the team. Most importantly over £1,350 was raised for Cancer Research UK.
This is the third year that the Ward Ambassadors have taken on the running challenge and introduced new runners, while also encouraging those who might have retired their trainers to get back out and active. The latest Race for Life Challenge sees their fundraising total over the period surpass an incredible £10,750.
Dan Egner, organiser and running advocate at Ward said: “Running has multiple benefits, including improved mental health and fitness, weight loss and getting out and about in the fresh air. It’s great for teamwork and bonding with colleagues outside of work. Above all, we have raised a fantastic amount of funds for a really important cause.
“We’re pleased that people are keen to continue as part of the ‘Ward athletes’ to join in future activities including Park Runs and other races. We’re always keen to welcome new recruits too. We Got This!”
