Ward statement – 16 July 2019

“Ward can confirm that earlier today [Tuesday 16th July 2019] small devices were found in a skip where waste was being processed at our Swadlincote site. There is no risk to our team or the local community from this waste processing.

“The items were warning devices placed on rail track to warn the train or the rail driver of danger ahead. The skip stated ‘may contain explosive devices’ and in all cases where these warnings are in place we contact the police as a matter of course to ensure the safe disposal of items, to reduce risk, eliminate dangerous materials going to landfill as part of our rigorous procedures for the safe disposal of waste. The items have been sent to the relevant authorities to deal with and all other waste processing activities are unaffected.”
