Ward replaces corporate Christmas gifts with donation to local charity

Midlands-based metal recycling and waste specialist, Ward, has exchanged corporate Christmas gifts for charity donations to support local causes this year.

The business, which has metal recycling and waste management sites at Chesterfield, Ilkeston, Swadlincote, Immingham, Redcar and Barking swapped its annual thank you gift to customers and suppliers for a £5,000 donation to local charity Salcare, which specialises in supporting victims of domestic abuse.

The charity was nominated by the ‘Ward Ambassadors’, who have been specifically chosen to help deliver charity and community support initiatives, as part of the ‘Ward Way’, the firm’s sustainability road map to 2030. Following Salcare’s nomination anong other local groups, the charity was voted for and selected by the wider Ward team.

At the end of last year, Clare Harby, General Manager of WARDrobe, presented the cheque to Lizzie Nugent, Deputy Director of Services and Domestic Abuse Specialist at Salcare.

Clare said:

“We were delighted to gift Salcare with this generous donation. We already work with the charity, collecting textiles on their behalf and reusing their unwanted items. We are well aware of the vital work they do in supporting local victims of domestic violence.

We hope that our donation will go some way to funding their crucial work into 2022 and help to support more families in need in the local community.”

Lizzie said:

“A big ‘thank you’ to Ward for our kind donation of £5,000. Clare Harby and her team have been such a help to Salcare over the past year and Salcare cannot thank them enough – well done to you all!

It’s more important than ever to help families who are struggling right now. Salcare is not a big charity, and it is kind donations like this that remind us that people do care and want to help. The funding will help families with children, particularly those escaping domestic abuse, receive support to help with food and fuel poverty, furniture packages and few Christmas treats and games as well.

Thank you to everyone at Ward who wanted to help us – it really does make a difference.”

As a multi-award winning, independent fourth-generation family business, Ward continues to make significant investments across its business operations and contribute to the communities in which it operates. The business continues to strive to be at the forefront of building a sustainable business for future generations.

Established in 1977, Salcare is a charity providing support for the Amber Valley and Erewash communities. The charity helps anyone in need, through referrals by social services, the police, domestic abuse services and job centres. For more information, visit www.salcare.org.uk.
