Ward appoints HR Manager to maintain best practice family values while striving for growth
Midlands-based metal recycling and waste management specialist, Ward, has further strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Angela Sellars-Jones, as Human Resources Manager.
With over 10 years facilities management industry expertise, gained most recently as Senior HR Manager at family-led global facilities services business Sasse UK, Angela was part of a team representing over 7,000 employees. The appointment brings a wealth of corporate, yet family-focussed, knowledge to the Ward team.
This new role represents a significant hire at Ward, following a recent management team reorganisation that saw the three sons of joint managing directors David and Michael Ward join the board of directors; Thomas Ward and David Ward Jnr as Commercial Directors and Donald Ward as Operations Director. The appointment of a dedicated HR Manager will support the fourth-generation family business as it sets the motions in place for further strategic growth.
Angela Sellars-Jones, commented: “Ward is a local company and I loved the idea of working for another family business. I really appreciate the idea of working for a sustainable business (both in terms of green credentials and growth), especially one that is committed to their local community and employees. My main objective is to continue to grow Human Resources within Ward and keep in line with the ever-changing best practice rules. Ward is clearly an employer of choice and has a fantastic family approach to their workforce, I think this is something to be valued and enhanced throughout the HR practices within the business.”
Based mainly out of Donald Ward House in Ilkeston but with multiple site visits, the role will cover all seven of Ward’s metal recycling and waste management processing facilities. Angela’s main objective is to continue Ward’s reputation as an employer of choice, to help ensure the business goals are met through the right people, oversee all HR related procedures, processes and offer best practice advice and support to line managers and their teams.
Donald Ward, Operations Director at Ward, said: “In a relatively short space of time we’ve grown from a 30 strong family business to a staff of over 400 people and a fleet of more than 120 modern vehicles. To achieve the next level of growth we needed some strategic and operational support with HR best practice. Angela brings both experience of a large organisation and a great understanding of our family values. It’s a pleasure to welcome her to the Ward team.”
The 2019 Derby Telegraph ‘Employer of the Year’, Ward is committed to supporting its team to continually learn and develop. An Investors In People accredited business, Ward is a fourth-generation family firm that has quadrupled its turnover over the last decade, through continuous investment and innovation in metal processing, recycling and waste management.
