Ward and Treetops Hospice teamed up for another successful Treecycling campaign

Recycling and waste specialist Ward once again teamed up with Treetops Hospice for its annual Christmas Treecycling initiative, helping to make it one of the most successful yet.

The popular scheme invites residents to register their preloved Christmas trees for collection in return for a charity donation. All funds raised are then used to support the hospice’s vital work in providing care in the community.

With support from Ward the Treetops team collected 1,470 Christmas trees, all of which will be diverted from landfill and be recycled for composting and used in green energy production.

Almost 19 tonnes of pre-loved trees were taken to Ward’s recycling facility at Ilkeston. With support of volunteers, Ward’s transport team were involved in deliveries, exchanges and final collections, saving the charity more than £3,000 which can be used towards providing vital support services to local families through the most difficult time of their life.

Kevin Deller, National Construction Waste Manager at Ward, said: “It was great to be involved in the Treecycling campaign again this year, supporting with transport and tree processing at our state-of-the art facility in Ilkeston. Despite some challenges with the weather, we’ve managed to achieve some great, sustainable results and prevented the trees from ending up in landfill.”

“We always look forward to supporting the charity and work closely with Treetops to see how we can maximise collections and fundraising.”

Victoria Rocca, Relationships Manager- Key Events at Treetops Hospice, said: “We are so grateful for the support received from all our volunteers and local businesses, including Ward. We couldn’t run the campaign without them and are thrilled that this year’s campaign has been such a success.

“Ward’s generous contribution to the campaign meant we could raise a fantastic amount for the hospice while supporting the public in recycling their unwanted Christmas trees in a sustainable way – an initiative where everyone benefits.”
