Kapow! Superhero charity challenge for Treetops

Team Ward ay Kapow!

#TeamWARD took part in KAPOW! this September at Markeaton Park, Derby, to raise much needed funds for local charity Treetops Hospice. The superhero themed charity run (or walk) included fancy dress, a 5K obstacle course and 10 inflatable challenges.

Run by event organisers Extreme Adventure Ltd, in partnership with and to raise money for Derbyshire based Treetops Hospice Care, who provide nursing care and support to adults in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire suffering from life limiting illnesses. They also offer ongoing support and counselling for anyone affected by bereavement.

The event was open to adults and children (over 1.24m tall) who were encouraged to take part dressed up as superheroes, which #TeamWARD did not shy away from with coming as comic book characters such as Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy and many more to really get into the spirit.

Donald Ward, Commercial Manager at Ward said: “TeamWARD showed that they are all superheroes during KAPOW!. It was a fantastic day, so much fun and everyone made such an effort with their fancy dress. We had Batman and Robin (large and small), Poison Ivy, Mario and Luigi, Wonder Woman and even Ward masks, capes and our own Ward mascot. As well as being a corporate sponsor, we’re still fundraising and we are hoping to raise in excess of £1,000 towards Treetops Hospice Care which provides such vital services for local people.”

As little as £10 in donations could provide a child’s bereavement box, £25 could provide a complementary therapy session, £54 could provide a counselling session, £87 could provide a bathing spa session and £301 provides an overnight Hospice at Home nursing shift.

The task was to complete a 5K inflatable run (but of course walking was fine), including tackling 10 inflatable obstacles such as the Ward sponsored ‘Stairs of Doom’, ‘Biff Bash’, ‘The Alternator’, ‘The Hammer’, ‘Holy Cow Maze’, ‘Twisty Tunnels’, ‘The Mangle’, ‘Dip ‘n’ Duck’, ‘The Transformer’ and finishing with victory by running through the ‘Foam Splat’ and basking in the cheers from the crowd.

Laura McWha, Corporate Partnership Fundraiser at Treetops Hospice Care said: “A huge round of applause goes to the 33 members of #TeamWard for making up 10% of the 300 registered participants this KAPOW! Superhero Challenge. Ward’s support and that of our other corporate partners is invaluable in helping us to continue the life changing work we offer.”

Donations are still being accepted from Treetops Hospice Care because even though KAPOW! is done, the work carries on. You can find out how to lend your support here.
