Businesses help raise thousands for local hospice

Over £5,650 has been raised for local adult hospice Treetops in a scheme to collect and recycle old Christmas trees.

Over 400 trees are being collected from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire this week in the Treetops Treecycling scheme. Collections are made in return for a donation towards the hospice which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults and their families.

The scheme is growing in popularity as Mary Rose, senior community and events fundraiser Mary Rose explained:

“This is the third year of Treecycling and every year the number of trees collected – and the donations we receive – goes up.

“This year we’ve been able to expand the postcode areas where we’re collecting trees from as we’ve had amazing support from Ward Recycling.

“We’ve also had wonderful volunteers helping us from Treetops, Costain Galliford Try, Santander and Dains Accountants, Derby who have been out and about with vans donated by Enterprise and Sandicliffe Ford Stapleton – we really couldn’t do this without all their help.

“We want to say a huge thanks to everyone who’s been involved. We’re looking forward to building the Treecycling service up to be even bigger and more successful next year!”

Kevin Deller, national business development manager for Ward said:

“It has been fantastic working together on the Christmas Treecycling scheme this year, withTreetops. Ward Recycling is proud to have been able to support raising much needed funds, while encouraging people to recycle.

“We continually want to educate people about the benefits of recycling and this is a great way to do it. Supporting the Treecyling project means that Christmas trees are 100% recycled rather than ending up in people’s wheelie bins and going to landfill.

“Treetops Hospice Care provides fantastic care and support for many families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – as a local, family run business we were pleased to be able to offer up Ilkeston and Woodville sites to help as much as we could.”

Treetops Hospice Care services include Support and Information, a Day Care Unit, Hospice at Home nurses and Therapeutic Services including counselling, art therapy and complementary therapy.
