The Hazardous Waste Chemist will provide support to the Transfer Station Manager. The role will include taking responsibility for the acceptance of incoming waste and confirm waste received is accurate vs manifest (checking and labelling of incoming waste) using the relevant data logging system Enwis).

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for accepting incoming waste and processing the waste, whilst adhering to regulations, permits and legislation. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Report any NCR relating to incoming waste within 24 hours and reported to relevant person (s)
  • Responsible for the storage and segregation of waste as per permit
  • Request and assist in the planning of outgoing waste – including providing an accurate and ongoing listing of waste, in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all operatives in the Haz Waste T/S are working safely with the appropriate PPE – as per safe bulking procedures.
  • Walkaround sheets are fully completed daily.
  • Bay logs must be regularly updated.
  • Present and record results from the analysis of pre-acceptance samples in a timely manner to the relevant person(s)
  • Attend customers site – as and when required.
  • Processing of incoming load within 24 hours.
  • Preparation of load manifests as and when required.
  • Ensure Health and Safety compliance on the internal audit
  • Complete pre-acceptance and sample analysis with a turnaround of 2 days.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • HND in Chemistry/ Applied Chemical Sciences (minimum)
  • Science based degree (beneficial)
  • Previous experience working in a Hazardous Waste Transfer Station/ work within the Hazardous Waste sector
  • Good communicator
  • Leadership qualities
