Ward raises over £3,500 to support team mate with terminal cancer

A bake sale, the Derby Central 10K race and donations of annual leave are just some of the ways the Ward team has raised more than £3,500 to support one of their colleagues recently diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Derby Central 10K team: Justin Thorne, Jess Foss, Lee Farby, Tracy Johnson, Caroline Young, Jen Clarke, Simon Thompson, Daniel Haywood, Adele Smithurst, Lukasz Kuriata, Matt Hallam, Nikki Price, Hannah Johnson, Aaron Wycherley, Richard Hankey, Ben Stubbs, David Ward (Jnr), David Edwards, Sarah Foster.

To enable their colleague to spend quality time with family, the team has rallied round to complete a series of fundraisers, including donating their own holiday time. A cake sale with homemade treats raised almost £700 – that’s a lot of cake!

To run off the cake, 19 Ward employees donned their trainers and lycra to take part in the Derby Central 10K. Despite a few injuries, they powered through to complete the city centre race in April. Thanks to generous sponsorship from family, friends and customers including Squibb Demolition, Total Reclaims, Lasershape and Merchant Property Development, the team raised over £2,800.

Ward’s Commercial Manager, David Ward Jnr, who took part in the run, said: “Ward wants to do as much as we can to help one of our own. As a family business, we understand more than most that this is a difficult time and we want to support in any way we can. The Derby Central race was a great display of team work and we our fundraising efforts were boosted by customers we have close relationships with, plus welcomed donation from family and friends.”

Ward is planning other activities to support their colleague, including a raffle with some excellent donated prizes.
