Ward gives new life to your old Christmas tree through charity Treecycling service with Treetops Hospice

Treecycling for treetops hospice

Local charity Treetops Hospice Care is offering to collect and recycle people’s Christmas trees with Ward, in return for a donation towards its services in the community.

The Christmas Treecycling scheme will run from Monday 8 to Friday 12 January. For a recommended donation of £10 or more, Treetops volunteers will collect trees from front gates or driveways and take them away.

Treetops, based in Risley, provides nursing care and emotional support for adults in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Residents in the following postcode areas can register their collection online at www.treetopshospice.org.uk/treecycling . Registration closes on Wednesday 3 January.

It’s a real win-win situation for everyone as senior community and events fundraiser, Mary Rose explained:

“After Christmas, people always wonder what to do with their trees and so rather than drag them down to the local tip or dump them at the bottom of a garden for months, why not let us do all the hard work for you in return for a donation. We’ll save people time, mess and stress and raise money for a great cause.”

This year, Treetops is being supported by Ward Recycling who will be recycling the trees at their depots.

Donald Ward, head of technical and recycling at Ward said:

“It is important to us that we are not just a business in Derbyshire, but that we really contribute locally and support community projects where we can make a difference.

“Treetops Hospice Care provides fantastic care and support for many families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – as a local, family run business we wanted to offer up Ilkeston and Woodville sites to help as much as we could.

“By working together on the Christmas Treecycling scheme, Ward is able to support Treetops in raising much needed funds, while encouraging people to recycle. We want to educate people about the benefits of recycling and ensure that Christmas trees are 100% recycled rather than ending up in people’s wheelie bins and going to landfill.”

Volunteers from Costain, Santander and Dains Accountants, Derby will be joining Ward and the Treetops team collecting trees in vans on loan from Enterprise and Sandicliffe Ford Stapleton.

Treetops Hospice Care services include Support and Information, a Day Care Unit, Hospice at Home nurses and Therapeutic Services including counselling, art therapy and complementary therapy.
